Description of Railroad
The term railroad refers to the direction the pattern or texture runs on the roll.
With a Railroad Pattern, the design, grain or texture runs the length of the roll (sideways). As you pulled the fabric off the roll from left to right, the pattern will remain straight up. This means the length of the pattern repeats as long as the roll of fabric itself.
The standard way to run a design is up the roll. This means the design, grain or texture appears straight if you unroll the fabric from floor to ceiling, creating the maximum width equal to the width of the fabric. When a greater width is desired, a seam must be created.
